Dorothy Dosher Hardee was the wife of Lewis Jefferson Hardee, son of John Richardson Hardee and Ella Content Davis Hardee. They were married on 6 January 1935 in Southport, Brunswick County, North Carolina.

OBITUARY:

Dorothy Dosher Hardee died December 28, 2008, in Southport in the house her father had begun in the 1920s and that she and her husband completed and lived in most of their ives. Her parents were Harry Lee and Alta Wescott Dosher of Southport. Dorothy lived a long and abundant life. She celebrated her 93rd birthday among family and friends on November 18. She was the widow of Lewis J. Hardee, a prominent seafood dealer, shrimp boat owner, and former president of Security Savings Bank.
Dorothy was a spunky young lady. Once when playing follow the leader, she and her friend Leverne Rehder jumped from the frightening height of the crows' nest of a menhaden boat into the Cape Fear. "The others were chicken!" she declared. She swam in the river, played on the Southport High School basketball team, played tennis down at the court on the Garrison, and rode horses in the pine woods near town in proper riding boots and flared, tan gabardine britches. Later she water-skied, competed in king mackerel tournaments and won golf trophies. She painted and won prizes for dress making.
She was active in church activities and civic affairs. At the time of her demise she was the oldest continuous member of the Southport Baptist Church. Like her husband, she was muscial. She played the piano, was an organist in the Baptist Church and sang in the choir. For a time she studied piano seriously with Mary Mintz.
A lifetime member and former president of the Southport Woman's Club, she was also the Founding President of the Southport Garden Club which was formed in her living room. She worked on Mrs. Margaret Taylor Harper's campaign for Lt. Governor of the State. She was one of the original "tree- huggers." When Southport was felling the great oaks that lined Howe Street to accommodate paving, she and other club friends chained themselves to a huge tree at Howe and Owens Streets, but to no avail.
She was well traveled, once crossing the United States in a car with her husband and friends, and more than once traveling throughout New England with friends. She made trips to Europe and England.
The Hardees were a closely knit, loving family. Lewis called his wife "Sweetheart", which is why as a child, his children picked up the name, and why half the family, neighbors and friends called her that.
She is survived by three sons, Lewis J. Hardee, Jr. of New York; Mikael A. and Genie Johnson Hardee of Cocoa, Florida; and Donald Lee and Vickie White Hardee of Myrtle Beach. Her grandchildren are: Lori M. Hardee Motes, Kimberly D. Hardee Trapp, Christopher M. Hardee, and Jefferson B. Hardee. Her great- grand children are Brendan Trapp, Paul Daniel Trapp, Emma Trapp, Mikaela Moates and Houlton Moates; and a cousin, Vivian McKeithan Jones.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Mon. Dec 29, at Peacock-Newman & White Funeral Home, 1411 N. Howe Street, Southport. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tues., Dec. 30, at the Southport Baptist Church Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Northwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Steve Dosher, Thomas Harrelso, Sonny Hickman, Norman Holden, Jimmy More an Al Trunnell.
